2026 FIFA WCQ: Bafana Bafana still in a strong position – Hugo Broos

The chief coach of South Africa, Hugo Broos, has expressed his confidence that his team remains in a stronger position to qualify for the FIFA 2026 World Cup ahead of Nigeria and Benin Republic.

Bafana Bafana aims to finish its absence of 16 years of the biggest football stage.

Talking before his game against Zimbabwe on Friday, Broos emphasized the need for a great result.

“The situation has changed slightly due to the deduction of three points, but that is the only change,” said Broos.

“Perhaps the next games are historical: everyone knows that 24 years have passed since South Africa could be classified for the World Cup (they won their place in 2010 as hosts). Even with a three -point advantage, we still have to win our last two games to be mathematically qualifying.”

The Belgian tactic said that three other teams, together with South Africa, remain in dispute.

“There are four teams involved: it is impossible for the four to win their two games.

That is why Friday’s game is so important. If we win, we move at 17 points. Even if Nigeria wins both games, they can only reach 17 points. Ruanda can also get 17 if they win twice, but Benin can’t because they face Nigeria and Rwanda, ”he explained.

Broos reaffirmed his belief in the ability of his squad to fulfill when he matters most.
