2027: Attom Magira declares himself to run for Borno Governorship under ADC – THISAGE

By Salihu Pirkusu, Maiduguri

Alhaji Attom Magira, who had consecutively contested for governor on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019, and also in 2023 on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has declared his intention to contest again on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2027 general elections in Borno State.

He stated this while addressing journalists in Maiduguri, the state capital, on Wednesday.

The young Magira, fondly known as opposition leader and champion of the “Not Too Young To Run” movement, said his decision to join the race was a consequence of the recent decline or renunciation by the paramount leader of the ADC in the state, Alhaji Kashim Imam (Mattawali of Borno) to contest for the governorship.

He noted that his decision remains sacrosanct to challenge any of his opponents from other political parties who according to him do not have the pedigree to match him in his quest to reposition Borno for a better society, peaceful co-existence, development and progress.

Attom, who claimed to be a man of peace, said “the state government under the ruling APC has witch-hunted me on several occasions, specifically to silence me politically”, stressing that he remained focused, determined and committed to offer himself for service delivery to the citizens of Borno regardless of tribal, religious or political considerations if given the governorship mandate.

He further said that more than 500 plots of land owned by him have been confiscated by the established authorities, including some of his agricultural lands located in Jere Local Government Area and Maiduguri Metropolis.

Atom also revealed that one of its multi-billion Plazas located along Abbaganaram/Shehuri north of the metropolis has been demolished by the state government, although it said, it will not focus much on the demolished Plaza as the matter is still pending in court.

“It is unfortunate that 550 plots of land owned by me have been confiscated by the established authorities, including some of my agricultural lands located in Jere Local Government Area and Maiduguri Metropolis.

“ Similarly, one of my multi-billion Naira Plazas located along Abbaganaram/Shehuri north of the metropolis has been demolished by the state government. I do not want to dwell further as the matter is still pending in court.” Atom said.

He therefore called on stakeholders, ADC supporters and the people of Borno State, to put aside party affiliations or ethnicity and vote for a governorship candidate who has integrity, experience, popularity, capacity and contacts in the next general elections, so as to reposition Borno at greater heights.
