Organisers of the #EndBadGovernance protest have rejected a proposal by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to hold a limited demonstration.
The National Police Chief, in a meeting with promoters of nationwide demonstrations over hunger and other socio-economic challenges scheduled to begin on August 1, urged them to limit rallies to closed areas.
However, a lawyer for the Take It Back Movement, one of the groups behind the protests, Ebun Adegboruwa (SAN), in a chat with journalists on Tuesday said they would continue with the street protests and show their anger against some of the government policies that have caused hardship in the country.
The Federal Government and other concerned Nigerians have continued to appeal to the protest organizers to call off the plan to avoid a repeat of the disastrous experience of the October 2020 #ENDSARS protests in the country.
The National Assembly will hold an emergency plenary session on Wednesday as part of ongoing efforts to prevent protests.
