The Lagos State Government has set up a medical panel to review the circumstances leading to the death of the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Waheed Ayilara.
The state Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Lagos.
Ayilara died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) on August 29 after undergoing surgery for prostate cancer.
Abayomi said: “Given the circumstances surrounding her (Ayilara) death, which occurred hours after an apparently benign surgery, the Ministry of Health, following the directive of the Governor, has constituted a medical panel to review the clinical circumstances that led to her death.
“The panel is chaired by the Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo Fabanwo.
“They will submit a comprehensive report on the matter within seven days.
“We share our condolences and understand the anxiety this news may cause.
“We assure the public that the Lagos State government is committed to ensuring a thorough investigation.”
The Commissioner noted that Ayilara’s death was a shock that brought deep sadness to everyone.
“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on behalf of the Government and people of Lagos State, extends his deepest condolences to Ayilara’s family, loved ones, the Police and Government, and the people of Akwa Ibom State during this difficult time,” he added.
