Nigeria’s police forces withdrawn his previous invitation extended to Alhaji Aminu Sanusi in relation to the unfortunate accident that took place in the state of Kano during the celebration of the Sallah on March 30, 2025.
Emir had previously been summoned for an alleged murder during the festivals of the Sallah last Sunday in Kano.
In the meantime, a declaration by the officer of the Public Relations of Force, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi said: “However, following the councils of the interested parties respected and in line with the police inspector of the police in ensuring that police actions are not politicized or erroneously interpreted, the IGP has directed that the invitation is withdrawn.
“Instead, the agents of the Department of History of the Force (FID) were in charge of the instructions of the IGP to proceed in Kano to obtain the declaration of Alhaji Sanusi.
“Before the celebration of the Sallah Day, the credible intelligence available to the police indicated that the two (2) Emiri contested in the state of Kano -Alh Ado Bayero and Alh Lamido Sanusi had planned to organize separate durbar festivals.
“The Durbar Festival is a longtime tradition that includes a recognized Emir that rides horses throughout the city in the company of its people.
“To prevent possible violence, the police inspector general, IGP Kayode Egbetokun deployed the coordinated excavation for the North West which also acts as a deputy inspector general of the police responsible for the Department of Criminal Investigations of the Force.
“It has been mutually agreed on the fact that no Durbar Festival would have been held to preserve public peace and security and none of the contested emirs will ride the sallah day on horseback.
“Despite this agreement, Alhaji Aminu Sanusi, who had participated in the prayers of Eid in his car, decided to mount a horse in a procession after the prayers of the AID on the day of the Sallah, accompanied by local vigilantes.
“This triggered a clash by the young people of the community, leading to the tragic death of a Usman Sagiru and leaving many others injured.
“A situation that the force had previously warned and intended to avoid the emissaries sent above both to Alhaji Sanusi and Alhaji Ado Bayero
“The Nigerian police forces, under the guidance of the police general inspector, remains resolved in his commitment to carry out his functions of criminal investigation with the highest level of professionalism, including the investigations of this accident.
“All the individuals found guilty in the end will be made right. To this end, some arrests have been made to invite to Alhaji Sanusi.
“The force also wants to reiterate that its actions are guided exclusively by the principles of justice, neutrality and professionalism”.
