The Senate removed Senator Natasha Akpoti-Auduaghan (PDP-Kogi), as president of the Diaspora Committee and non-governmental organizations.
The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, who made the announcement during Thursday’s plenary replaced Natasha with Senator Aniekan Bassey.
He said: “There is a change in the Presidency of the Committee. The Senate Committee for the diaspora and non -governmental organizations will now be chaired by Senator Aniekan Bassey.”
The Committee has the task of monitoring the diaspora’s networks and NGOs, providing indications on domestic remittances, facilitating dialogue with local governments and authorities
“The Committee is also saddled to promote the exchange of ideas between Nigerians at home and abroad.
“The annual budget estimates relating to diaspora affairs also supervises.”
Akpoti-Usuaghan was previously reassigned to the Diaspora Committee on February 4 after being removed as president of the Senate Committee for local content, as part of a wider reshuffle in the committee’s leadership.
His reassignment was followed by an onset altercation in the Senate room for seats agreements, culminating in a clash with the president of the Senate, Akpabio.
The situation intensified on March 6 when Akpoti-Auduaghan was suspended from the Senate after publicly accused Akpabio of sexual harassment and charge abuse.
However, last week a high federal court of Abuja ordered the Senate to remember Akpoti-Auduaghan which represents the central senatorial district of Kogi.
But in a reaction to the judgment of the court, the Senate, through the president of the media committee and public affairs, senator Yami Adramodo said that it has not yet been served with the real certified copy (CTC) of this sentence.
