Ministry of information and national orientation, Mohammed Idris said on Saturday that he had taken note of the concerns raised by various parties interested in the media sector regarding the recent directive by the government of the Niger state to suspend the operations of Badegi FM, a radio station in Minna.
According to reports, the Governor of the State of the Niger, Mohammed Umaru Bago, issued the directive during an expanded meeting of the Caucus APC of the Niger State in Minna on August 1, attended by the Minister of Information and National Orientation. According to reports, the governor cited accusations of non -ethical transmissions and incitements against the government.
Rabiu Ibrahim, special assistant (media) of the Minister of Information and National Orientation, said that, while recognizing the concerns raised, the Minister observed that the suspension of transmission licenses is part of the competence of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), as stipulated by law.
In light of this, the Ministry welcomed the decision of the government of the State of the Niger to formally denounce the “non -ethical behavior” perceived of Badegi FM to the NBC for the resolution.
He said the minister appealed to all the parties to remain calm, ensuring that the NBC has the mechanisms necessary to resolve the question in a fair and impartial way.
