Abuja (basic reporter) The Federal Government has signed a Memorandum of understanding (Mou) with the state government of Gombe on the mockery of the General Hospital Kumo as Kumo Federal Medical Center; In order to expand access to quality health care.

The signature ceremony, recently held in Abuja, was chaired by the honorable Minister of State for Health and Social Wellness, dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako and, the executive governor of the State of Gombe, his excellence Alhaji Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya, with.

Dr. Salako described the agreement as a deliberated initiative for the expansion of health services and the treatments specialized throughout the country by the current administration, while the commitment of President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed for the equitable health delivery in all regions.

He recalled that the administration has so far established 15 federal tertiary institutions in two years, with the FMC Kumo as sixteenth.

“This memorandum of understanding demonstrates the priority of our administration in ensuring that every Nigerian, regardless of the position, has access to advanced medical services. The Federal Government is mobilizing the resources to quickly implement this agreement and strengthen the health infrastructures in the State of Gombe,” he said.

Dr. Salako observed that the partnership would quickly accelerate the appointment of the main officials, the regularization of medical staff and the creation of new specialized health facilities. He stressed that the collaboration aligns with the ongoing federal initiatives to expand health funding, strengthen insurance coverage and develop medical research skills.

Also speaking, Dr. Salako expressed the commitment of the Federal Government to face the challenges of the SnakeBites by annually providing budgetary allocations to obtain snake poisons, conduct research and intensify awareness campaigns among others. To this end, he said that a discussion is underway between the Federal Government (through the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Wellness) to bring it to another level of establishment of a specialized center for Snakebites in the State of Gombe.

Governor Yahaya greeted the partnership as a “timely and strategic intervention”, underlining that the Gombe’s health sector had undergone a significant transformation in recent years through investments in primary and secondary assistance structures.

“What we are doing today is the icing on the cake. This collaboration will further improve the health delivery not only for the residents of Gombe, but also for people from close states that rely on our health structures,” said the governor.

He highlighted the results of Gombe, including a functional health insurance program with over 345,000 subscribers, 100,000 of which are indigent beneficiaries. Yahaya has assured the Federal Government the full commitment of its administration in the implementation of the memorandum of understanding.

Speaking, the permanent secretary Daju Kachollom MNI described the agreement as a historical moment in the agenda of the transformation of the health sector of Nigeria, underlining that collaboration exemplifies the benefits of strong federal partnerships.

“This is more than a document, it is a symbol of progress, shared responsibility and our determination to offer a real impact in the life of the Nigerians,” said Kachollom.

“Through this memorandum of understanding, we are laying the foundations to transform the General Hospital Gombe into a federal medical center, equipped, personal and positioned to meet the growing health needs of the community and the state in general. Reflects our attention to decentralization, sustainability and investments guided by the results in health care, fully aligned with the renewed agenda of President Tinubu.”

He praised the governor Yahaya and his team for their proactive approach to health reform, highlighting that the Federal Ministry of Health is committed to ensuring that the project is completed and operational as a center of regional excellence.
