How Chelle came to the decision to choose Fredrick before Ekong, Awaziem, in Super Eagles, won over Rwanda

The head coach of the National Senior team of Nigeria, Eric Chelle, made a very bold decision to decide to leave the captain of the William Troost Ekong team in yesterday’s 1-0 victory over Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo.

Chelle chose the loan to Brentford’s defender, Benjamin Fredrick, before the experienced defender. A decision that was not only bold, but also a great risk taking into account the fact that the 20 -year -old has not yet played a competitive game for Nigeria.

Fredrick made his debut at the Unity Cup after being recruited to compensate for the game of some players, before the game against Jamaica in the final of the tournament.

Yesterday, however, he showed no sign of a player who made his competitive debut, since he paired without problems with Calvin Bassey in the heart of the defense of the super eagles.

Explaining the decision, a source close to the coach said that Chelle made the decision after three games with Ekong in the heart of a Back Four did not come out as planned. He feels that Ekong’s lack of rhythm has become the objective of most opposite teams.

However, it would have begun if the coach had played with a three butt. The formation to which he changed in the second half after the introduction of Ekong while seeking to see the game.

Nantes Chidozie Awaziem defender would have been the following option, but his similarities with Bassey meant that both cannot be played in the heart of the defense.

The coach challenged all the chances of choosing Fredrick after a 15 -minute speech to the players, who were largely surprised when Fredrick was announced as the one that began with Bassey.

A decision that Chelle took completely convinced that Fredrick will produce a better performance than in the Unity Cup, after playing high -level football for Belgium Side FC Dondnder, where he is borrowed from Brentford.

He was tested just after, and now he will keep the defender on Tuesday to South Africa in a key game, hoping to continue his performance against group leaders.
