The practical leadership of Onyeocha Powers Team Imo at 16 medals in ASABA

The IMO team closed a lively campaign at the 9th National Youth Games in ASABA with a radius of 16 doctors (3 gold, 8 silver, 5 bronze), a performance that highlighted the growing profile of the state in basic sports under the management of the commissioner for sport, Hon. Obinna Onyeocha.

The golden moments of the state arrived in the children’s cricket, where IMO passed the rivals to claim the T6 title on the last day, together with the victories in the shooting of mixed and female doubles abula, pushing the gold counting to three.

IMO silver medals cut on multiple sports. OnaSanya Samuel delivered in the 80 km cycling race, while the Iwuoha victory collected two podium finishes in weights. Grace Ebochukwu impressed in the arrows, with bitter blessing of Nkwocha and Chizoba Ohaka shining in the Ping Tennis paradise. Ojike Caleb also distinguished himself in powerlifting, while the male of cricket and Abula settled for silver finishes.

The bronze column was equally widespread, with medals of Metu Chhinonso (boxing, 51 kg), Uneyo Munachi (Kokokowa), as well as additional podiums in weight lifting, kickboxing and rugby, a reflection of the growing versatility of IMO through the disciplines.

Commissioner Onyeocha, who supported a clean sports policy, hunts to basic talents and instant premiums for medals, praised the athletes for their resilience. “This trip shows that with adequate structures, our young talents can compete with the best. IMO is building champions for today and tomorrow,” he said.

While Lagos, Delta and Edo claimed the first three points at national level, the 16 medals of IMOs report constant progress and potential. The Eastern Heartland starts ASABA with a deeper pool of tested athletes and the trust that podium ends in advance.
