Air Peace rejected the report that connects her crew with alcohol, drugs

Air Peace management has rejected the report that connects its crew with the use of alcohol and cannabis after the incident at the Harcourt Port International Airport on July 13, 2025.

There was a broad report on Thursday that the airline crew was charged with the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) because of the frequent use of alcohol and drugs but in a statement on Friday, the airline denied the report, by saying its crew always operates under strict policies and maintaining an attitude without tolerant of drug use.

NSIB has released an initial report to the Harcourt Port incident involving 737-524 air aircraft, 5N-BQQ registered. Flights, which carried 103 passengers and crew from Lagos, landed a long time ago on the runway 21 after an unstable approach, finally stopped 209 meters to Clearway.

The bureau revealed that the initial toxicological test revealed positive results for alcohol in several flight crew members, while cabin crew members were tested positive for THC, the psychoa ricket component. The findings, according to NSIB, are currently being reviewed based on consideration of human performance and safety management.

But in a statement posted on his X -grip, the airline stated that the NSIB had not officially communicated any official findings to him.

This illustrates the report as misleading and clarifying that both and his crew did not receive confirmation of the alleged preliminary report by NSIB for more than a month after the alleged incidence and testing of post-incident alcohol directly from the crew.

“Until now, we have never received official communication from the NSIB about the findings for more than a month after the incident and after testing the crew for alcohol that occurred in less than an hour of the incident,” said the airline.

“As a responsible airline, we put the highest priority in safety, transparency, and compliance, and it is important to correct.”

Providing details of its internal response to the Harcourt Port incident, Air Peace confirmed that the affected aviation captain was immediately based and freed from the task of flying because it ignored the standard go-around and failed to observe the principles of crew resource management (CRM).

This airline, however, emphasized that the action was not related to the use of alcohol, because there were no test results that were officially communicated by the NSIB.

“Following the incident, we shop immediate and decisive action: the captain of the affected flight was immediely grounded and relieved from further flight duties to date for failure to adhere to crew resource management (CRM) Principles and for Disregarding Standard Go-Around procedures as advised by his co-pilot but not for positive testing to breathalyser test as the result was not communicated to us by nsib to date.

“If he is involved in the use of drugs or alcohol, Nigerian civil aviation authorities will not clean it to continue the flight assignment,” the statement said.

Air Peace added that if the final confirmation of the positive alcohol test appears to the captain, the airline will increase the frequency of testing of its crew while also intensifying fitness examination for strict tasks and internal monitoring.
