Rivers Assembly resumes, requires the revision of funds pursuant to IBAS, lists of the commissioners of Gov Fubara – Thage

Thursday, the house of assembly of the State of the rivers resumed plenary after six months of suspension imposed during the state of emergency.

The president Bola Tinubu had, on March 18, suspended the assembly together with the governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, following the intensity of political and security tensions in the state.

Last Wednesday, the president raised the emergency rule and directed the governor, his deputy and the legislator to return to office on September 18, 2025.

The legislators, led by the speaker Martin Amaewhule, met at the residential complex of the assembly along the ABA –port Harcourt highway.

At Thursday’s plenary, the members required a review of how the funds were spent on projects and programs during the emergency period.

The motion, sponsored by the leader of the Chamber, the Major Jack, the deputy leader Linda Somiari-Stewart and seven, was unanimously adopted by the 26 legislators present.

By moving the motion, Jack recalled that the emergency rule officially expired at midnight, restoring democratic structures in the state.

He listed the successful conduct of the local government’s elections of 30 August as one of the earnings of the period, but insisted on the fact that the assembly must now work with the governor Fubara on a new financial plan that reflects the aspirations of the people of the rivers.

He argued that since the legislator did not discuss or approve the budget implemented by the emergency rule, it was important to establish clarity on how state funds were used.

He also observed that several contracts were awarded and the money spent the admiral Ibas Ibas (RETD.) From the account of the revenues consolidated by the Outive Administrator.

Jack also urged the governor to present commissioners appointed for the establishment of the state executive council, in line with the Constitution and the peace agreement that has restored the democratic institutions in the rivers.

He praised President Tinubu for raising the emergency rule, ensuring that the assembly would support the Constitution and respected the peace agreement in the interest of stability and good government.

The AMAEWHULE speaker said that the Assembly will formally write to the governor Fubara, requesting the list of appointed to the commissioner and a new budget proposal.

In the meantime, a large crowd of supporters has converted to the home house of Port Harcourt on Thursday to accommodate the governor after his restoration.
