The Nigerian government launched a new index to deepen transparency in MDA

The Public Service Reform Bureau (BPSR) has launched the 2025 edition of the Transparency and Integrity Index, which aims to promote ethical accountability, openness and behavior in all ministries, departments and institutions (MDA).

Director General of Bureau, Mr. Dasuki Arabi, who launched TII on Friday in Abuja, described it as an important instrument to assess transparency and integrity in the Nigerian public institution.

“This annual event remains one of the most important platforms to promote transparency, accountability, and integrity within our public institutions,” Head of Strategic Communication at BPSR, Mr. Aliyu Umar, quoted said at the event, in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja.

“TII is not just about numbers or ranking; this is about fostering a culture of openness and responsibility that inspires public trust.”

Now in the fifth edition, the index evaluates MDA based on their compliance with transparency standards in five main areas – financial management, corruption control, open procurement, citizen involvement, and human resource inclusion.

Arabi noted that the 2025 index was developed in partnerships with fiscal transparency centers and public integrity (CEFTPI) and in harmony with national strategies for public service reforms (NSPSR 2021-2025).

He added that this initiative also strengthened the law of information freedom and supported Nigeria’s commitment under the open government partnership.

“This complements the work of anti-corruption institutions such as ICPC and EFCC while reflecting Nigeria’s obligations based on the UN Convention on Corruption (UNCAC),” he said.

The Director General of BPSR further stated awards to the Secretary to the Federation Government, Development Partners, and Stakeholders for their collaboration and sustainable support.

“Together, we are building a stronger institution for Nigeria who is more responsible and prosperous,” he added.

Since the beginning, the transparency and integrity index has functioned as a benchmark to measure performance in the public sector and guide reforms that increase good governance and national institutional efficiency.
