NFF appoints Akeem Busari as head coach of Women’s U17 Flamencos

The Executive Committee of the Nigerian Football Federation has endorsed a recommendation by the Federation’s Technical and Development Committee for the appointment of coach Akeem Ishola Busari as head coach of the U17 women’s national team, Flamingos.

Busari comes to the role with solid experience and deep knowledge of the terrain of women’s football, and replaces coach Bankole Olowookere, who has been with the Flamingos for many years, including leading the team to bronze medals at the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup finals in India.

Busari’s immediate task is to lead the Flamingos in the soon-to-be-started race for a place in the finals of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2026, to be held in Morocco. The Flemings are waiting to face the winner of the preliminary clash between Niger Republic and Guinea, the first leg of which will be played away from home in the third week of next month.

The new Flamingos chief strategist is currently the head coach of Pacesetter Queens Football Club in Ibadan.
