Inspector General of Police, IGP Tunji Rilwan Disu, highlighted the importance of judo and other combat sports in strengthening the physical fitness, confidence, capacity and operational effectiveness of police officers.
IGP Disu made these remarks during his recent operational visit to Imo State where he was introduced to members of the Judokas of the Imo State Command by the Judo Coach of the Imo State Command, DSP Raphael Ubah.
Speaking during the visit, the IGP praised those who promote Judo and described the sport as an important discipline that can help officials develop the strength, confidence and skills needed to defend themselves and handle difficult situations effectively.
According to him, trust is especially important for police officers because the people they encounter can evaluate their body language and their level of confidence.
He explained that an officer who appears weak could encourage an attacker, while an officer who demonstrates confidence and readiness could make the attacker think twice before attempting an attack.
The IGP encouraged the officers to continue training and urged them to take advantage of the opportunity to train at the police headquarters so that other officers can observe them and be motivated to join.
Keep training, find your time and train at the venue, so that other officers have time to see you train and join you,” he said.
He also commended the coaches and judokas of Imo State for their dedication to the development of combat sports within the police force and the state. He encouraged them to stay committed to training.
The IGP thanked the coaches and officers for their efforts and expressed his support for the continued development of Judo among police personnel.
Coach, thank you. God bless you so much,” said IGP Disu.
In conclusion, the IGP was satisfied with the Judo demonstration exercise and promised to come with his training judogis next time he visits Imo State.
