Amiyi Academy FC, Umuaka, celebrated its first anniversary in emphatic fashion on Sunday, April 5, 2026, with a resounding 5-0 victory over IMSU FC, Owerri, in a new football match held at Central School, Umuaka.

The anniversary match, attended by a host of football dignitaries and stakeholders, lived up to expectations as Amiyi’s young team displayed dominance, skill and cohesion against their visitors, reports www.silvernews.com.ng.

Emmanuel Ugochukwu Okoro opened the floodgates with the first goal, setting the tone for what would become a one-sided affair. Durugbor Mmesoma doubled the lead before half-time, ensuring Amiyi Academy FC went into half-time with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
As the second half resumed, Amiyi maintained the offensive momentum. Ikwugbado Lucky extended the lead with their third goal, while Mmesoma grabbed his second of the day to make it 4-0. David Irobi capped off an outstanding performance with the fifth goal, sealing a comprehensive victory for the hosts.

The match was the highlight of the activities planned to celebrate the academy’s one-year milestone, reflecting its continued growth and commitment to the development of grassroots football.
Among the dignitaries present at the event were the Executive Chairman of Njaba Local Government Area, Hon. Vitalis Ugochukwu Obi and a member of the Imo State Assembly, Hon. Chief Ozioma Ebonine. Traditional rulers, including HRM Eze Barr. Francis O. Ahanotu and HRM Eze Justin Ezeala also graced the occasion, adding cultural prestige to the celebration.

Guest leader Chief Chika Duru, along with notable personalities such as Barr. Luca Ukonu, Barr. Ifeanyi Dike, President of Imo State Football Association, and Chikelue Iloenyosi, President of Anambra State Football Association, Isaac Mbika (President of Ex-Iwuanyanwu Nationale All-World Footballers Association and FIFA Licensing Agent) were present to witness the impressive display.

In their remarks, Imo State FA President, Barr. Ifeanyi Dike, and his Anambra State counterpart, Chikelue Iloenyosi, have called on well-meaning people in the community to support the reconstruction and improvement of sports facilities in the area.

They highlighted the importance of adequate infrastructure in nurturing young talent and pledged their commitment to supporting the continued development of Amiyi Academy FC.

The victory not only underlined Amiyi Academy FC’s rapid development in a short period, but also reaffirmed its vision of nurturing young talent and promoting grassroots football in the region.
