Human rights activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, on Monday openly mocked former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, during his court appearance at the Federal High Court in Abuja, making sharp comments about his past role in Nigeria’s state government and justice system.
In a video that later went viral, Sowore was seen speaking directly to Malami inside the courthouse, indicating that the former Justice Minister is now facing the same system he once championed.
“You see what it’s like to be persecuted now. When you were with Buhari then, you were bragging. We warned you that there were failures in the justice system, but you didn’t listen, and now the system is dealing with you,” Sowore said.
He added, “There is a failure in the system. The system is dealing with you now.”
Sowore, who has had numerous confrontations with law enforcement agencies over the years, also introduced a symbolic moment in the meeting, by offering Malami what he described as a “revolutionary hat.”
“I want to give you my hat. This is a revolutionary hat,” he said.
Even amidst criticism, Sowore acknowledged Malami’s calm, saying, “At least I’m glad you’re strong.”
The activist stated that the weaknesses in Nigeria’s justice system were shared by both government critics and former officials, and stressed that no one was immune.
“We are not all on the same side… even the bullies are bullying you now,” he said.
Reiterating his stance on governance and accountability, Sowore stated, “As far as the Nigerian project is concerned, no matter how strong you are, we will never support you. We are tough until tomorrow.”

Responding briefly, Malami insisted that he remains steadfast despite the situation, and noted that he continues to participate in the legal process.
“I can never give up hope. Yes, I have attended all court hearings. I will continue to attend. And I remain strong,” he said.
He also revealed his continued involvement in political activities, and added that he had attended meetings of the African Democratic Congress, although he was unable to attend the opposition summit held in Ibadan, Ibadan, at the weekend.
