Yilwatda and Basiru lead APC screening team for governors seeking re-election – THISAGE

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has set up high-powered screening committees for gubernatorial aspirants and incumbent governors seeking re-election or aspiring for Senate seats ahead of the party’s upcoming primary elections.

The committee for incumbent governors and those aspiring for a seat in the Senate will be chaired by the National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, while APC National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, PhD, will serve as secretary.

THEWILL reports that this development marks an important step in the ruling party’s preparations for its governorship and legislative primaries, as the APC moves to strengthen internal processes and ensure transparency in candidate selection.

Other members of the committee include senior members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), including Ali Bukar Dalori, who will serve as chair of the Appeals Screening Committee, and Barr. Murtala Aliyu Kankia, who will act as secretary of the appeals committee.

Other members are Sulaiman M. Argungu; Mrs. Mary Alile Idele and Aare (Hon.) Durotolu Oyebode Bankole; Amb. Haruna Ginsau; Mr. Uguru Mathew Ofoke; Barr. Felix Morka; Muazu Bawa Rijau; Dr. Ijeoma Arodiogbu; and Chief (Hon.) Victor Giadom.

According to the calendar released by the party, the screening exercise for incumbent governors seeking re-election or aspiring for a Senate seat will take place from Friday, May 8 to Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Plateau State Governors Lodge, Abuja.

Work will begin on Friday at 4pm and continue on Saturday at 10am.

The APC also announced the creation of a separate selection committee for all other governorship aspirants. The committee is chaired by Dr. Benjamin Obi Nwoye, while Barr. Emeka Okafor will serve as secretary.

Barr. Idris Shuaibu will chair the screening appeals committee, alongside Barr. Ibrahim Salawu serves as the secretary of the appeal panel.

Other members of the committee include the Hon. Garba Datti Muhammad, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa, Senator Abubakar Maikafi, Abdullahi Dayo Israel, Hon. Hamma-Adama Ali Kumo, Hon. Durosinmi Meseko and Hajia Zainab A. Ibrahim.

Screening for all other governorship aspirants will be held from Saturday, May 9 to Sunday, May 10, 2026 at the NWC Hall, APC National Secretariat, Abuja, starting from 10am daily.

The party said the committees were carefully set up to ensure a credible, fair and transparent screening process ahead of the primaries.

THEWILL further reports that the screening calendar and composition of the committees were approved by the National Organizing Secretary of the APC, Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, as part of efforts to ensure smooth and orderly conduct of the party’s electoral activities nationwide.
