Wizkd becomes the first African artist to reach 11 billion streams on Spotify

Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has become the first African artist to reach 11 billion streams on Spotify.

This achievement marks another milestone in the singer’s musical career.

Music data handle @ChaftsAfrica, made the announcement on X, (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday and called Wizkid the first African artist to achieve the milestone.

The post read: “The first African artist to reach a major Spotify milestone:

“1 billion – Wizkid, 2 billion – Wizkid,
3 billion — Wizkid, 4 billion — Wizkid,
5 billion — Wizkid, 6 billion — Wizkid,
7 billion — Wizkid, 8 billion — Wizkid,
9 billion — Wizkid, 10 billion — Wizkid,
11 billion — Wizkid.”

This achievement comes days after the release of Wizkid’s collaboration with DJ Tunez entitled “State of Mind” on May 15, which recorded more than 685,000 Spotify streams globally in its first day.

‘Big Wiz’, as the singer is affectionately known by his many fans and industry peers, in January became the first African artist to reach 10 billion streams on Spotify.

Entertainment stakeholders and fans also described this milestone as a huge moment for African music on the global stage.
