The maiden edition of the Imo State Unity Cup sponsored by ONE DOSH in collaboration with the Imo State Ministry of Sports will kick off on July 1, 2026 at the Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education playground in Owerri.
The organizers disclosed this at a press conference with members of the Imo State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) at the conference hall of the Dan Anyiam Owerri Stadium.
The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Chairman, GOC Nwadike, in his speech said the main aim of the championship is to restore life in various campuses in the state as well as promote unity, solidarity and peace. He said 8 senior colleges across the state will take part in the competition with the opening ceremony on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at the Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education playground.
The event according to the LOC President will be witnessed by the Commissioner for Sports in the IMO State, Hon. Obinna Onyeocha and other senior government officials.
Also, the representative of the sponsor (ONE DOSH), Miss Cindy Oba, said one of the core principles of their company is to give back to society what they have achieved and one of the best ways is to sponsor competitions like the Imo Unity Cup to bring the youths ahead in the scheme of things.
In his remarks, the convener (IMO UNITY CUP), Engr Ugochukwu Obinna Ebonine, appreciated the state government through the ministry of sports for the seamless collaboration and support to ensure the tournament runs smoothly and successfully.
He also said scouts from Bayern Munich FC Germany and the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) will be on site to scout for raw talent in the league.
Organizers have released the match schedule with Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education set to clash with Umuagwo University of Agriculture on July 1, 2026 by 2pm.

The finals will be decided on July 9 and 10 with the final on 24/7/26 at the main bowl at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.

First place winners will go home with $1 million.
Second place: #750,000.
Third place: #500,000.
MVP: #100,000
BEST PLAYER: #100,000 and other consolation prizes.
