Anthony Joshua avoids distraction from Tyson Fury, insists he is fully focused on victory. This Saturday he put to rest speculation that he is thinking more about an epic fight with Tysion Fury later this year, rather than focusing on how to defeat Kristian Prenga this weekend.
Sports247 reports that, with the London 2012 Olympics gold medalist set for a return fight with the Albanian this Saturday in Saudi Arabia, many boxing fans believe what he thinks, albeit mainly on a November date against Fury, who scored a knockout victory in Thailand on Friday.
However, ‘AJ’ has come out to declare that he is not taking this weekend’s fight lightly, nor is he thinking about the long-awaited fight with Fury, adding that he simply wants to move forward steadily on his return and only think about each urgent battle before the next.
The last time Joshua stepped into the ring against a high-profile contender was in 2024, when he was brutally knocked out by Daniel Dubois, but he insists he is not underestimating Prenga in any way and stressed that his focus is entirely on the Albanian, not Fury.
Joshua emphatically stated that while his focus is fully on Prenga, he does not expect any of his opponents to remain at the same level as when he first met them or when they first faced him.
“I don’t expect Prenga or anyone to be at the level I’ve seen them at. I expect them to be 20 to 25 percent better. But I will be too, because I know what’s at stake. Your record doesn’t matter. Your history doesn’t matter.
“It’s about the night and that’s where, for me, I have to fully concentrate. No matter how good they are, I’m fully focused,” said Joshua, who lost a two-fight deal with Deontay Wilder in 2024 when the American was defeated by Joseph Parker.
