The inaugural Chief Kingsley Uduh/Anambra Open Tennis Championship will be held from 17 to 18 October 2026, at the City Sports Club tennis courts in Amawbia, Awka.

The two-day tournament is sponsored by Chief Kingsley Uduh, president of the Anambra State Tennis Association and board member of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), which represents the five south-eastern states.
According to Uduh, the championship aims to revive tennis in Anambra State by creating awareness and encouraging grassroots participation in the sport.

He also disclosed that the competition would provide an opportunity to identify and prepare players who will represent Team Anambra at the 23rd National Sports Festival, scheduled to take place in Enugu from November 27 to December 11, 2026.

Uduh expressed concern over the declining interest in tennis in the state, stressing the need for deliberate efforts to restore the sport to its previous position.

He explained that the championship will serve as a talent identification and preparation platform for Team Anambra players ahead of the National Sports Festival.

After the tournament, the selected players will go to the camp organized by the state tennis association before joining the state contingent camp for the festival.

The Anambra State Tennis Association President also called on tennis enthusiasts, stakeholders and potential sponsors across Anambra State and the South East to support the development of the sport.

He noted that the association needs collective support to achieve its goal of rebuilding tennis and ensuring its sustainable growth in the state.

Uduh expressed optimism that the first championship will mark the beginning of a new chapter for tennis in Anambra State, with greater participation, better talent development and more opportunities for players.
