President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that governance will not take a backseat to campaigning ahead of the 2027 presidential elections.
Tinubu gave the assurance on Wednesday while inaugurating the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the State House, Abuja.
He said his office’s responsibilities will continue uninterrupted, stressing that the country needs constant attention to its urgent national priorities.
“The responsibility of this office does not stop,” the president said.
Tinubu said he would continue to engage Nigerians on his administration’s achievements and development agenda, but would leave it to the Council to coordinate campaign activities across states and local government areas.
“I will still find time to speak directly to Nigerians even as you lead the campaign in states and local government areas.
“So you’ll excuse me from going anywhere with you. We have bills to pay,” he said.
The President said the government has financial obligations to meet and needs to attract investors to support the country’s economic growth and future development.
“The work must go on. We have bills to pay. America’s creditors cannot wait. We want these investors to come in, to be here to stay, to invest for our children’s future,” Tinubu said.
He declared the APC ready for the 2027 elections, describing the inauguration as a renewal of the party’s commitment to Nigerians and its responsibilities as the ruling party.
“The APC is ready. We did not come together just to inaugurate a council.
“We have come together to renew a pact, a pact with the Nigerian people and the historic responsibility they have entrusted to us as the ruling party of Nigeria.
“We promise we won’t let them down,” he said.
Tinubu urged Council members to take the party’s vision, achievements and development agenda to Nigerians across the country, including communities and neighbourhoods.
“Let the word spread from this hall to every corner of our nation. The APC is ready.
He charged members of the party to remain steadfast in nation-building, citing his record as governor of Lagos, when he spearheaded measures to address the looming threat of Atlantic Ocean flooding.
“There is no limit to daring. You have to dare, you have to be determined,” he said.
The President also cautioned APC governors, legislators and other party leaders against taking previous electoral efforts for granted, urging them to demonstrate commitment ahead of the 2027 elections.
The event was witnessed by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tajudeen Abass, governors, prominent politicians and APC youth and women groups, among other dignitaries.
The APC Presidential Campaign Council, led by Director General Sen. Abdulaziz Yari, will kick off its presidential campaign in Kaduna on October 24.
