Alhaji Abba Kaka, President of the Borno State Basketball Association and North East representative on the board of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), has called on stakeholders to embrace unity and sportsmanship as the federation prepares for a new chapter in Nigerian basketball.
Speaking with Wakawaka Sports at the Bentley Hotel, Abuja, during the election of player representatives, Kaka expressed optimism that the upcoming NBBF elections would bring together stakeholders and provide an opportunity to move the game forward.
He said he hopes the elections will be a unifying process, bringing everyone together for the overall development of Nigerian basketball.
Kaka also wished all the competitors well, urging them to embrace sportsmanship regardless of the outcome.
He pointed to the election of player representatives as a positive example, describing the process as smooth, free and fair. He expressed hope that the remaining elections will follow the same pattern.
The NBBF elections have attracted interest from stakeholders looking to shape the future of Nigerian basketball, with candidates including Dr Abdullahi Mustafa (DAM), Olumide Oyedeji, Ejike Ogboaja and Mike Igoche.
Kaka expressed hope that the candidates and their supporters would put the interests of Nigerian basketball above personal differences, stressing the importance of unity in building a stronger federation.
He argued that a peaceful and credible electoral process would provide a solid foundation for the incoming leadership to work towards the growth and development of basketball across the country.
