Nosa Igiebor, former midfielder for the Super Águilas and Real Betis, admitted that he underestimated Ademola Lookman after his move to Atlético de Madrid.
Igiebor revealed that he initially doubted Lookman’s ability to adapt to the demands of Spanish football, but that the winger’s outstanding performances have since proven him wrong.
“To be honest, I’m really surprised that it’s a confession. When I saw the transfer, I told someone that I didn’t think Lookman would do well in the Spanish league because I know how difficult it is.
“But I must admit that he has really surprised me. His transformation and consistency scoring game after game I take back my words. This guy has really impressed me,” Igiebor said.
Drawing on his own experience playing in Spain, Igiebor highlighted the challenges of adapting to the league, but praised Lookman’s growth and quality.
“I played in that league and I understand how difficult it can be. Seeing what he’s doing now shows how much he’s improved. I’m very happy for him,” he added.

Lookman has made a good start in Spain, making 18 appearances in all competitions for Atlético Madrid.
