Nigeria’s sporting mainstay, Chief Donatus Agu-Ejidike (JP), has congratulated the Super Eagles for successfully defending their Unity Cup title following their impressive 3-0 victory over the Reggae Boyz of Jamaica in the final played in London on Saturday.
In a statement made available to the media, Agu-Ejidike described the victory as a significant boost for Nigerian football and a source of pride for millions of football fans across the country.
The former President of the Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN) commended the players and technical crew for their impressive performances throughout the competition, stressing that the team’s performance reflected resilience, discipline and a renewed sense of purpose.
He particularly praised the technical team for introducing new players into the national team, saying the debutants justified their inclusion with outstanding performances which boosted confidence in the future of the Super Eagles.
According to Agu-Ejidike, although Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup remains disappointing, the success of the Unity Cup should serve as a basis for rebuilding the national team and restoring its status among the world’s leading footballing nations.
He urged players and referees not to get carried away with victory but to remain focused on the challenges ahead, stressing that consistency, hard work and proper planning would be vital to achieving long-term success.
The sports philanthropist expressed optimism that the blend of emerging talent and experienced players, coupled with support from stakeholders, would help Nigeria return to the top of international football.
Agu-Ejidike also called on Nigerians to continue supporting the national team in both good and bad times, describing football as a powerful tool for national unity and global recognition.
The Nnewi-born sports enthusiast equally congratulated Enugu-based Rangers International FC for winning the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title.
He described Rangers’ achievements as a reward for the club’s rich tradition, resilience, sound management and commitment to excellence.
Agu-Ejidike also commended Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, for his support for the development of the sport and his commitment to the success of the flying antelopes.
The patron of the Nigerian Football Supporters Club (NFSC) also commended the players, coaching staff, management and supporters of Rangers for their collective efforts, expressing confidence that the club will worthily represent Nigeria in continental competitions.
He concluded by urging football administrators, corporate organizations and other stakeholders to support investment in the development of grassroots and elite football, insisting that such commitment remains essential to restoring the glory of Nigerian football on the continental and global stage.
