APC Launches Action Ahead of 2027, Supports Tinubu/Shettima, Orders Nationwide Reconciliation

Maiduguri (Core Reporters) – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed its confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashìm Shettima ahead of the 2027 general elections, while directing a new push for reconciliation through its nationwide structures.

The resolutions were reached at the end of a three-day national strategic retreat held in Maiduguri, Borno State, which also saw the 195th meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

The retreat, which began on Thursday, September 24 and ends on Saturday, September 26, 2026, brought together NWC members, state presidents and other key stakeholders to review party structures, internal cohesion and preparations for the 2027 elections.

Announcing the resolutions, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, said the review gave the party what he described as a “clean bill of health”, insisting that the APC is strong, healthy and prepared for the 2027 elections.

“We approve a vote of confidence on our presidential candidate, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, and on all other candidates of our party who were elected in the primary elections for the 2027 general elections,” Yilwatda said.

The statement formally reaffirmed the party’s position on the Tinubu-Shettima presidential candidacy and the candidates emerging from the primary elections.

However, the Maiduguri retreat went beyond the endorsement of the presidential ticket, with the party placing internal reconciliation and grassroots mobilization at the heart of its preparations for the next election cycle.

The NWC decided that reconciliation committees should be established or strengthened at the state, local government and district levels wherever they were yet to be established.

“We decided that we need to continue to do reconciliation where it needs to be done at all levels,” Yilwatda said.

The move aims to address internal disagreements and strengthen cohesion among party members after the primary elections.

The APC leadership has also decided to take direct control of the national electoral mobilization ahead of the 2027 elections.

“The National Working Committee has also decided to lead the campaign and all the party’s efforts at the forefront to ensure the total victory of all our candidates in the next general elections”, reads the statement.

The party also described its candidates as among the “most pedigreed,” “most acceptable” and “best prepared” to serve Nigerians – assessments that represent the position of the APC leadership rather than an independent assessment.

Yilwatda said the party’s strategic review has strengthened the leadership’s confidence in its organizational preparedness.

“We get a clean bill of health with the APC as a party. I have every confidence that the party is strong, healthy, prepared and oiled for the 2027 general elections,” he said.

The Maiduguri resolutions come as emerging political parties and coalitions step up preparations for the 2027 elections.

For the APC, the latest strategy places less emphasis on forming its presidential ticket, which has already been decided, and more on maintaining internal cohesion, strengthening grassroots structures and coordinating the campaign mechanism across the country.

The directive covers party structures in 36 states, 774 local government areas and districts, and reconciliation is expected to play a central role in keeping members aligned ahead of elections.

The APC’s latest position thus combines three key elements of its 2027 strategy: continued confidence in the Tinubu-Shettima ticket, renewed efforts to resolve internal disagreements, and a commitment from the NWC to lead the national electoral mobilization.

The Maiduguri retreat consequently marks another phase in the ruling party’s preparations for 2027, with its organizational strength and ability to translate its national directives into coordinated bottom-up action becoming a focal point of its electoral strategy.
