The General Manager of Barau Football Club, Dominic Iorfa, has tasked the club’s players to win their opening match of the 2026/2027 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season against Nasarawa United.
The NPFL matchday one fixture between the two northern clubs will take place on Sunday 30 August 2026 at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, Kano, with kick-off scheduled for 4pm.
Speaking to players on Saturday in Kano, the seasoned football administrator urged them to work hard, stay focused and do whatever it takes to secure victory in the opening match.
“You know that winning the first championship match is very important. I know that you always work with skill and dedication. I urge you to work hard to ensure victory,” Iorfa said.
Dominic Iorfa also assured the players of his commitment to their welfare and match bonuses, reaffirming his determination to keep his promises and ensure the smooth running of all necessary club activities.
He also charged the club’s technical staff and managers to maintain professionalism, teamwork and discipline in their efforts to ensure the success of Barau FC throughout the season.
Responding on behalf of the club’s players and coaching staff, head coach Eugene Agagbe expressed appreciation for the general manager’s encouraging words.
He assured the management of the team’s commitment and cooperation to achieve the club’s objectives and compete strongly for success throughout the season.
The 2026/2027 NPFL campaign kicked off on Friday, with the Shooting Stars defeating Inter Lagos FC 2-1 in Ibadan. More meetings are planned across the country this weekend.
