Abuja (basic journalists) annoyed by the incessant killings and by the recent escalation of violent attacks and killings in the States of Benue and Altopiano, as well as other parts of the country, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) urged the federal government to reduce the insecurity that devastated the country, saying that if not controlled they could run out and lead to human viovery.

In a declaration by the Director of the company and the Department of External Links of the Commission, Fatimah Agwai Mohammed said that these accidents caused the tragic loss of human lives, the displacement of innocent people and the unbridled destruction of ownership, leaving many families and communities in trauma and despair.

Consequently, the executive secretary of the Dr. Tony Ojukwu (San) Commission in a rapid reaction to the disturbing situation stressed that the right to life is a fundamental human right, sanctioned by various international and national tools.

He also expressed concern about the fact that these attacks rooted in the clashes of the shepherds/farmers are degenerating in ethnic, religious or common tensions. These, if not controlled, could exacerbate the situation and lead to further violations of human rights.

The NHRC is worried about the consequences of the carnage in progress in Plateau and Benue during this season of the rains which is the agricultural season. As we are all aware, Benue is the food basket of the nation. The current insecurity if not controlled means that people can no longer go to farms this agricultural season.

The ongoing insecurity, particularly in the country’s producers of food producing, indicate that the famine and food insecurity in the near future. The trillion and billions borrowed from the banks to support the risk of local agriculture were wasted due to persistent insecurity and apparent lack of political will to face this threat in the last 10 years and more.

In light of this development, the country Chief Human Rights Officer invited the government to all levels to take immediate and concrete measures to face the growing security situation in Benue, a plateau and other parts of the country. According to both the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria and the African Charter on human rights and populations, as well as the international convention on civil and political rights, including the universal declaration of human rights.

The government has the main duty for civil protection. The deployment of an adequate safety personnel to the areas concerned to ensure the protection of lives and properties; the conduct of an in -depth investigation on accidents and in the pursuit of authors of violence to guarantee responsibility and justice; The supply of support and protection to vulnerable populations, including women, children and the elderly, constitute the primary responsibility of the government.

Face the causes at the root of conflict and violence, including poverty, inequality and social exclusion; In addition, promoting dialogue and reconciliation between communities to promote peaceful coexistence must be pursued in a genuine way and intentionally by all interested parties.

The endowed silk also urged the security agencies to join the standards and international principles for human rights in their response to the situation, including the use of proportionate force and respect for human dignity.

He invited all interested parties, including the leaders of the community, the owners of political offices, the organizations of civil society and the media, to work together to promote peace, tolerance and understanding.

“The NHRC recognizes the important role that these interested parties can play to prevent further violence and promote human rights,” he added. All efforts must be made by all authors to take into account a public investigation, return, justice and compensation to the victims and their families.

The executive secretary of the NHRC has ensured that the Commission will continue to monitor the situation and commit to the relevant authorities to ensure that human rights are protected and promoted. He exploited the opportunity to renew the requests for state and local government, the police and the adoption of a national policy for the protection of civilians and the mitigation of human damage during conflicts, as well as the Ranch to prevent terrorist escalation, bandits and breeders/farmers in the country.
