Former Kano State governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has formally announced his resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) with immediate effect.
In a press release issued on Sunday, March 29, 2026, Kwankwaso expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunity to serve as national leader and presidential candidate during the 2023 general elections, describing his resignation as a difficult decision.
He explained that the move was influenced by the current direction of Nigeria’s political landscape, stressing that it requires strategic realignment and alignment with another political platform that offers better opportunities to effect national change.
Kwankwaso also appreciated the National Chairman, Ajuri Ahmed, the National Working Committee, the Board of Directors and members of the Kwankwasiyya movement for their support and commitment throughout his tenure in the party.
The former governor said collaboration to build a better and more prosperous Nigeria would continue despite his departure from the NNPP.
