In a shift in the middle of the Migration intended to cut the migration rate, Britain has officially ended international recruitment for the role of social care, launching a comprehensive immigration reset that dramatically defines the state approach to labor mobility.
The decision, which was detailed in the 82 -page Immigration White Book released Monday by the Home Office, marked the most significant reshuffle of the British immigration system in decades. Entitled “Returning Control of the Immigration System,” This document outlines a series of strict actions aimed at curbing what the government is referred to as “low -skinned migration.”
“We will close social maintenance visas with new applications abroad,” Home Office announced, emphasizing that the visa route “has been exploited and used excessively in a way that damages public trust and does not support the sustainability of long -term labor.”
The change applies immediately. Foreign applications for the role of maintenance will no longer be accepted, while foreign workers in this sector can only extend or switch visas until 2028, while waiting for the full implementation of the new domestic labor plan.
The government insists that reforms are very important to shift the dependence of foreign workers.

“The health and social care sector must stay away from dependence on low -term recruitment abroad,” said White Paper.
“We will instead support the planning and training of long -term labor in the UK.”
The essence of a new policy is a tighter interpretation of what is the work of ‘skilled’. The government says the definition that exists under the point -based system has created a gap that allows migration with low skills with a skilled role.
“We are tightening the definition of skilled work – skilled must mean skillful,” said the document.
“Work that does not meet the bar will not meet the requirements for a visa, no matter the sector.”
In addition, a controversial immigration salary list-which allows entrepreneurs to offer wages below the threshold for certain roles-will be deleted.
“We will delete the Immigration Salary List to prevent British wage undercutting and to ensure that migration supports, rather than pressing, the labor market,” Paper explained.
This new framework also diverts greater responsibility to entrepreneurs, requires them to prove that they have run out of domestic recruitment choices before searching for foreign employees, especially in sectors that previously depended on international workers.
“There is no employer to be allowed to migrate. We re -balance the system to appreciate training, not dependence,” said Home Office.
Domestic Secretary Yvette Cooper described reform as an important step in restoring public order and trust in the British migration system.
“We act to reduce numbers and restore control. We must rebuild public trust and end the perception that immigration is a substitute for skills planning,” he said.
The document tone leaves a little space for ambiguity, because it indicates the end of the transition migration path becomes a permanent equipment for the labor market.
“We will not allow the temporary migration route to be permanent. Our reforms will restore integrity and ensure immigration work for Britain – not vice versa,” concluded the white book concluded.
