Nigeria senior national team coach Eric Chelle has named a replacement for striker Victor Osimhen who is in a race against time to be fit for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers in September, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

The Super Eagles will begin their campaign to be in AFCON 2027 with a home draw in Uyo against Madagascar on September 23 before traveling to play Guinea-Bissau four days later.

Osimhen will miss both matches after Galatasary reached an agreement with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to keep him out of the matches.

As we exclusively revealed on September 8, when we reported that Chelle had made contacts with a replacement to be on standby before the games.

Coventry City striker Taiwo Awoniyi is the manager’s chosen man, and a while ago his choice was officially confirmed by the team’s official management on social media.
