FIFA recognizes the Unity Cup and raises the profile of the tournament

The Unity Cup has been officially recognized as a FIFA Tier 1 event, marking a major milestone for the tournament and further strengthening its growing international reputation ahead of next week’s competition at The Valley, south-east London.

This year’s edition will feature four national teams from Nigeria, Jamaica, India and Zimbabwe competing in two semi-finals and a final scheduled for May 26-30 at Charlton Athletic’s historic stadium.

Nigeria will face Zimbabwe in the opening semi-final on Tuesday 26 May, before Jamaica take on India on Wednesday 27 May. The tournament will conclude on Saturday, May 30 with the third place match and the final.

Organizers described the FIFA Tier 1 designation as a significant achievement for the Unity Cup, as it ensures full international recognition for all matches under FIFA regulations while further enhancing the competition’s status on the global stage.

The tournament also continues its long tradition of celebrating football, culture and diaspora communities in London through a unique combination of sport and entertainment.
