Four suspected cultists arrested, gun and stolen iPhone recovered in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested four suspected cultists for alleged armed robbery, assault, illegal possession of firearms and theft of an iPhone 14 Pro Max in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, Samson John (25), Olufowora Michael (28), Odeh Samuel Ejeh (25) and Olajide Jeremiah (28), were reportedly arrested following a petition lodged at Ilaro Divisional Police Station at around 11.30pm on April 16, 2026.

Confirming the arrest on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the operation followed a swift response by officers after the complainant reported a violent invasion of his residence earlier that day.

According to the police, Samson John and six other accomplices broke into the victim’s house around 1pm, armed with an ax and other dangerous weapons, where they attacked and threatened him before taking his iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Babaseyi said officers acted on credible information and promptly tracked down the suspects, leading to their arrest and recovery of the exhibits.

“After a quick response and subsequent investigation by officers, the suspects were arrested.

“A locally made pistol, an axe, suspected amulets and the stolen iPhone 14 Pro Max were recovered during the operation,” the PPRO said.

He added that preliminary investigations link the suspects to cult-related activities and other violent crimes in the area.

According to him, the arrested suspects are currently in custody while efforts are being made to capture other gang members who escaped during the operation.

He further disclosed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

Reacting, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers for their prompt response and professionalism in dismantling the suspected gang.

Ojajuni reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance towards cultism and violent crimes, warning that criminal elements will continue to face decisive action across the State.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely information, stressing that community cooperation remains crucial in the fight against insecurity.

The police also urged the public to report suspicious activities through the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines, including the Gateway Shield toll-free line: 0800 000 9111 and other emergency numbers.
