General Rabe Abubakar buried in Katsina

Remains of Maj.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar (rtd) was buried on Saturday evening at Gidan Dawa Cemetery, Katsina, following the release of his body by the kidnappers who abducted him and his wife.

The burial, conducted according to Islamic rites, took place at around 6.45pm and attracted a large gathering of mourners, including the deputy governor of Katsina, Faruq Lawal-Jobe.

Other dignitaries present at the burial include senior government officials, military officers, traditional rulers, family members and sympathisers.

The Commander of 17 Brigade, Katsina was also present along with other security personnel who paid their last respects to the late senior military officer.

The funeral took place a few hours after the kidnappers freed the retired general’s remains.

The circumstances of his death while in captivity have continued to generate public concern and sadness across the country.

The death of the former army spokesman was widely mourned by government officials, security stakeholders and members of the public.

Many sympathizers described him as a distinguished officer whose military career was marked by dedication, patriotism and service to the nation.

Messages of condolence continued to pour in from various quarters, with sympathizers praying for the repose of his soul and comfort for his grieving family.
