Governor Kabir-Yusuf orders closure of Ministry of Interior accounts in Kano

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf has ordered the closure of all bank accounts operated by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state.

Kabir-Yusuf, who was addressing a meeting at the Government House in Kano on Wednesday, ordered that all be merged into one account.

The meeting was attended by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Shehu Sagagi, Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), Zayyid Abubakar, commissioners, heads of MDAs in the state and representatives of banks.

The governor said the move was taken to check fraud in Ministries/Institutions.

He threatened to impose sanctions on any ministry or agency that fails to comply with the directive within one week.

“The government is taking this step to ensure that funds are managed properly and eliminate the opportunity for financial irregularities,” he said.

Meanwhile, the KIRS chairman launched a new plan for tax collection under the unified account system.
