The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the highest standards of public communication, anchored in truth, transparency and accountability that fostered public trust in governance.

The minister said this at the weekend when he received the Image Maker Award 2026 presented to him by Vanguard Media Limited, publisher of Vanguard Newspapers.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant (Media), Rabiu Ibrahim, Alhaji Mohammed Idris described the award as a testament to the determination to build trust and a broader communications ecosystem in support of the federal government’s reform efforts, adding that “this was instrumental in bridging the gap between governance and public perception.”

Idris, who received the award at an elaborate ceremony held on Friday at Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, said the recognition came at a crucial time for Nigeria, characterized by bold reforms and commitment to reposition the nation for sustainable growth.

“This award is a testament to the trust we strive to build with every Nigerian. Communication is at the heart of governance and must promote trust, unity and hope. Communication must not only inform but also build trust. The award is not an end point, but a call to do more for the Nigerian people,” he explained.

He highlighted the importance of transparency and regular engagement with the public and the media, stressing that promoting open dialogue was key to bridging the gap between governance and the public.

The Minister also underlined the vital role of timely and accurate information in matters of national security, underlining continued collaboration with security agencies and media partners to maintain public calm and strengthen confidence in the Government’s efforts.

“As we face major policy changes, including the removal of fuel subsidies, foreign exchange reforms and fiscal restructuring, our approach has focused on clarity, consistency and credibility. We are committed to ensuring that government decisions are communicated with empathy and responsibility, always highlighting their long-term benefits for all Nigerians,” Idris said

The awards ceremony was attended by distinguished Nigerians, including the Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Peter Mbah; the Executive Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency Agbu Kefas; the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Minister of Women’s Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Suleiman Ibrahim; the Bishop of the Catholic diocese of Sokoto, Mgr.
