The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo State Chapter, has congratulated Heartland Queens on their remarkable qualification to the final of the 2026 President Federation Cup, describing the feat as a testament to the hard work, resilience and growing strength of women’s football in the state.
SWAN Imo in a press release jointly signed by the President, Cosmos Chukwuemeka and Secretary Tunde Liadi commended the Owerri team for overcoming tough opposition in their journey to the final and expressed confidence that the team will represent the state with pride when they face Nasarawa Amazons in the title decider match in Asaba on July 11.
The association also celebrated Imo-born basketball sensation, Ugonna Onyenso, on her selection in the 2026 NBA Draft, noting that her achievement is a source of inspiration to young athletes across the state and Nigeria. SWAN described his rise from NBA Academy Africa to the biggest basketball stage in the world as a shining example of dedication and excellence.
SWAN Imo has urged both Heartland Queens and Onyenso to remain focused as they continue to fly the flag of Imo State on national and international stages, assuring them of the support and goodwill of sports stakeholders and fans in the State.
