Kagame fired more than 200 people from the Rwandan army

Rwandan President Paul Kagame has dismissed more than 200 soldiers from the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF).

The RDF said in a statement on Friday the dismissed personnel included 21 senior and junior officers.

Among those fired were Martin Nzaramba and Etienne Uwimana.

In addition, the president approved the termination of contracts for 195 other ranks in the RDF.

No official reason was given for the dismissal, but under Rwandan law, military personnel can be dismissed from the RDF for “serious misconduct.”
