The woman told police she suspected her neighbor was involved.
The neighbor then admitted to the woman that he had her cat and sent her a letter demanding money in exchange for the cat’s return. The woman shared the information with police.
On Thursday, police visited the neighbor’s house, found the cat unharmed and returned it to the woman.
The 72-year-old man now faces charges of extortion and theft under $5,000. He had been released due to an undertaking.
