New Agura of Gbagura emerges within a month – Balogun IDdo

The Balogun of Iddo, the head Ayodele Koleade, assured that the vacant agura of the Gbagura stool will be filled within a following month, putting an end to almost two years of vacant places following the disappearance of the late monarch.

The chief Koleade held his certainty on Sunday during a meeting of the Gydc (Gydc) meeting of Gbagura Youth Development Council (Gydc) held in Oba Agura Square, Oke-Iddo, Abakuta.

He revealed that all the agreements and the processes towards the emergence of a new king from the dominant house of Jiboso would have been completed before the end of May 2025, opening the way to the corpusta of a new agura of Gbagura.

The stool became vacant in June 2023 after the death of Oba Saburee Babajide Bakre, Jamolu II, who greeted from Egyptian’s dominant house.

Gbagura, one of the four traditional sections of Egbaland, covers six areas of the local government that form the central senatorial district of Ogun-Abeokuta North, Abeokuta South, IFO, Obafemi-Owode, Ewekoro and Odeda. Gbagura’s Agura reigns next to the Alake of Egbaland, Osile of Oke-Fora Egba and Olowu of Owu.

Chapter Koleade, a retired permanent secretary in the Civil Service of Ogun, underlined the promptness of the Kingmaker to conclude the selection process despite some challenges.

He said: “We are lucky to have children of Gbagura such as Oluwasina Ogungbade, San, the attorney general and the commissioner for justice, and the Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, commissioner for the local government and the affairs of Chieftancy, together with many others in Abekuta in the local government.

“Although there have been some challenges that cause mild delays, they cannot stop us. We will have a new agura in the next month. I appeal to all the sons and daughters of Gbagura to remain patient and praemial so that God will guide us in this important process.”

Chapter Koleade was accompanied by the head of the Shuaibu Alasopuppo, Baada of Iddo, and the chief Mukaila Akindele, Erkerin of Iddo.

Speaking also, the Alasopuppo chief has blamed the delay on the alleged attempts to question the real lineage of the late Babajide Bakre, but assured that the IDdo leaders – who act as a consenting authorities and Kingmakers – would have completed the process once the dominant house of Jiboso concluded his selection.

In a related development, Prince Razaq Adesanya Ayinla of the Royal Family of Lupoju-Lugboso, representing the Jiboso dominant house, promised that the family would have accelerated the action to select a candidate to meet the time sequence established by the Kingmaker.

Prince Ayinla recalled the tradition in which the precedents Agura were crowned around the Ileya Festival (Eid Al-Adha), expressing optimism that history would repeat itself.

“I was told that our ancestors – Oba Raufu Adoosun, Oba Halidu Olaloko and Oba Saburee Bakre – have been crowned or entered the real sequence around the Ileya Festival. With the commitment of our Kingmaker, we are confident that the new Agura emerges in time for the celebration of this year,” he said.

The Times platform reports that the Gbagura community now impatiently awaits the conclusion of the process, with great expectations for the installation of a new monarch to continue the rich inheritance of the land.
