NFF elections will not change anything – Omoruyi

Former Nigeria international Loveday Omoruyi has expressed skepticism over a significant change in the NFF leadership structure with the upcoming elections.

Speaking to brila.net, Omoruyi said he does not expect a change in the federation’s hierarchy, arguing that entrenched political influence will continue to shape outcomes.

“We are tired. You keep playing the same game but want a different result? That will never happen,” Omoruyi said.

“I remember Segun Odegbami was on board. Kojo Williams came and it didn’t work out because it was a political appointment. It will never happen that way.

“Someone like (Sunday) Oliseh, who also coached the Super Eagles, wouldn’t be a bad choice.”

“We have to do things the right way. If I want to be a candidate for the presidency of this FA, I bet you it’s not going to work, you know this country, when it comes to elections you know how they operate,” he said.

Omoruyi further suggested that despite widespread frustration among stakeholders over the repeated cycle of leadership in Nigerian football, he still expects well-known figures to dominate the upcoming electoral process.

The next NFF elections are scheduled for September 26 in Nasarawa State.

Incumbent President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, elected in 2022, is widely expected to seek re-election.

Although potential rivals have not been officially confirmed, the NFF has formed a 12-member electoral committee chaired by lawyer Matthew Burka’a (SAN) to oversee the process.
