Rwanda coach Adel Amrouche’s Amavubi called Group C of the African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup the most controversial in history; He then confessed that Nigeria, Benin Republic and his team want to capitalize on a mistake made by the current leader of the segment, South Africa.
Sports247 reports that FIFA recently docked three points from South Africa for fielding an ineligible player in their match against Lesotho, and Amrouche noted that it was a sensible development that left the group wide open.

Amrouche noted: “This is the most controversial group I have ever been involved in. At one point we were finished, but now we are back alive. The most broken right now is SAFA, and we all want to profit from their mistake.”
While taking a closer look at the drama unfolding in the group, Amrouche also gave the Super Eagles a new ray of hope to clinch the sole ticket to the United States/Canada/Mexico 2026, promising that his team will not fold in their final away game against South Africa, before which they will play to beat the visiting Benin Republic this Friday.
“We have 11 points, while Benin is in
14 points. So we want to take 14 points to South Africa and we will try to qualify. We understand that the people of Benin are happy and we also want to be happy. Nigeria wants to be happy and South Africa also wants to be happy,” Amrouche said.
