Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command have neutralized two suspected kidnappers and arrested a suspected kingpin, Seriki Mohammed Abdullahi, and another gang member, Mohammed Bello, during a coordinated intelligence-led operation that also led to the recovery of firearms, ammunition and ₦1.5 million believed to be ransom proceeds.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement made available to PLATFORM TIMES on Saturday.
He said the operation shows the Command’s continued commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
He further said that police recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 10 rounds of 5.6 mm ammunition, a single barrel pistol, several mobile phones and a black bag allegedly used by the gang in its operations.
The operation follows the kidnapping of three persons on May 11, 2026 in Ipojo area, Iperin, Atan-Ijebu, Ogun State.
PLATFORM TIMES further gathered that the victims were later released unharmed on May 14, 2026 at around 7.30pm after the ransom was paid.
However, acting on consolidated intelligence information, anti-kidnapping squad officers intensified surveillance and tracking of suspects after the victims regained freedom.
In the early hours of May 15, 2026, at around 5am, police officers raided an alleged kidnappers’ hideout along the Ijebu-Ode/Ibadan Road axis.
Once the police were spotted, the suspects opened fire, triggering a fierce firefight.
He added that officers responded with superior firepower, resulting in the neutralization of two suspects, while other gang members fled into nearby forests with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.
Police said subsequent intelligence-led operations subsequently led to the arrest of the alleged kingpin, Seriki Mohammed Abdullahi, and Mohammed Bello, along with the recovery of further artefacts linked to the kidnapping syndicate.
Police Commissioner Bode Ojajuni praised the officers for what he described as their professionalism, courage and tactical efficiency during the operation.
He reiterated the Command’s determination to maintain pressure on kidnappers and other violent criminals across the state, warning that Ogun would remain “unsafe for criminal elements”.
The Command confirmed that the bodies of the neutralized suspects have been deposited in a morgue for autopsy, while operations are underway to capture the fleeing gang members.
According to police, all recovered artefacts have been secured and investigations are underway to dismantle the kidnapping syndicate’s wider network and ensure the prosecution of arrested suspects.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements through the Ogun State Police emergency lines, as part of ongoing collaborative security efforts.
