Police operatives in Ogun have arrested two suspected cattle thieves and recovered a stolen cow, worth N1.7 million in Ifo/Ibogun area of the state.
The State Police Public Relations Officer Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday in Abeokuta.
Babaseyi said a SWAT team attached to the state police command, arrested the two suspects following a distress call from a farmer in the area.
He said other items recovered from the suspects included an operational vehicle and a knife used in the crime.
The spokesperson said: The incident occurred at around 2.30am, on Thursday when suspected cattle thieves reportedly invaded a dairy farm located at Omitoro Village via Coker, Ifo/Ibogun, and swiped a cow.
” Upon receiving the emergency call, SWAT officers acted quickly and moved to the scene to intervene immediately.
“The suspects, who attempted to escape from the farm in a mini bus known as “Korope,” were intercepted after an alarm was raised after their suspicious movements were noticed.
“Swift intervention led to the arrest of both suspects. Evidence recovered included one stolen cow, one knife and an operational mini bus used to commit the crime.”
