Members of the Standard Tennis Club Owerri are preparing for a major leadership transition as the club holds presidential elections on May 31, 2026, at the club’s clubhouse in Owerri.

The elections are expected to usher in a new president and executive committee who will steer the affairs of one of the leading tennis clubs in the South East and across Nigeria.

Information made available to ENIC Media indicates that prominent members of the club, including Sunny Nganya, Laz. Okoroha and Ugochukwu Nwaogwugwu are vying for the position of club president.

Other cleared contenders for various executive positions include Emeka G. Eche for Financial Secretary, Ebuka Ezenweke and Ikenna Nwaneri for Club Captain, Oluchi Ozurumba for Vice Captain and Johnson Chimezie for Treasurer.

Also eligible for election are Okechukwu Okpei as deputy secretary general, Uzoma Onuachu as secretary general, as well as Victor Iwuanyanwu and Ugochukwu Ejike as vice president.

The club’s election committee also announced that some positions remain vacant, including PRO/Social Secretary, Kitchen/Bar Secretary and Provost.

Club members have continued to express enthusiasm ahead of the polls, with many describing the upcoming election as crucial to the continued growth and development of tennis within the club and the wider region.

Considered one of the largest tennis clubs east of the Niger River, Standard Tennis Club Owerri has remained a major center for recreational and competitive tennis in Nigeria, producing active players and helping to promote the sport over the years.
