Tension in the rivers such as Fubara, ex-OS-unit on bombing, fire of assembly

The political crisis in the state of sparrows deepened following a heated exchange between the suspended governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the former head of the service, dr. George NWEKE, on the recent bombings of Oleolizia and the combustion of the assembly complex of the state of the rivers.

NWEKE, who recently resigned from his position, accused Fubara of having orchestrated both accidents in an attempt to suppress the opposition and consolidate his grip on power.

However, the merchant governor rejected the accusations as a strip campaign orchestrated by political opponents.

The controversy derives from a series of violent accidents that have shaken the state. In 2023, the suspicious political criminals gave the state assembly chambers of Rivers State House at 9:45 pm around 9:45 pm, triggering tensions.

More recently, on March 18, 2025, an explosion hit a section of the Trans Niger gas pipeline in the Bodo community, in the area of the local Gokana government, further increasing the crisis.

Unlike the previous attacks in which the militant groups claimed responsibility, no faction has been the owner of recent bombings, fueling suspicions of political sabotage.

Speaking in Abuja, Nweke said that Fubara ordered his head of the suspended staff, Edison Ehie, to burn the assembly complex to counter his impeachment.

He also said that the governor had planned to destroy the residential neighborhoods of legislators, but was discouraged by a widespread sentence.

NWEKE said: “The governor Siminalayi Fubara directed his head of the staff, Edison Ehie, to burn the assembly to prevent his impeachment. I was there when a bag of money was delivered to Edison for the operation.”

He also accused Fubara of planning a wider scheme that involves attacks of oil structures to destabilize the country and push for a political reshuffle at national level.

According to NWEKE, the plan was to hit the non -Itali areas before extending sabotage to the territories of Ijaw to create a facade of widespread disorders.

In a quick response, Fubara rejected NWEKE’s statements, accusing him of being compromised by the political forces that try to discredit his administration.

“Usually, I would not have responded to these unfounded accusations, but I have to correct the false narrative sold. NWEKE is lying, and his statements are nothing more than a script poorly performed by those who want to undermine me.”

Fubara also refuted the accusations of financing militant activities or conspiring against national security, underlining that its administration has always given priority to peace and development.

Among the controversy, the wife of Nweke, Florence, raised concerns about the safety of her husband. She said that her husband had been kidnapped and forced to accuses Fubara.

“The man in that interview is not my husband. I tried to reach him, but his jokes are unattainable. My husband is in trouble.”

His declaration introduced a dramatic turning point to the crisis that is taking place, leaving many asking if NWEKE’s statements were voluntarily made or under coercion.

As the crisis deepens, the state of sparrows remains at the limit, with political analysts who warn that the accusations and counter-allegations could further destabilize governance.

While a Federal Court in Abuja has already imprisoned five people for the assembly fire of 2023, the latest accusations against Fubara could ask for further legal and political battles.
