The emir dies at 84 in Egypt

The Jigawa State government has announced the death of the Emir of Gumel Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad-Sani, at the age of 84 following a long illness.

State Government Secretary Alhaji Bala Ibrahim, who announced the incident to journalists in Dutse, said the emir died on Thursday in Cairo, Egypt.

“The Government of Jigawa State regrets to announce with deep sorrow the demise of His Highness the Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad Sani, CON.

“Born on December 12, 1942, the revered monarch died this afternoon in Cairo, Egypt, after a long illness.

“During his extraordinary 46-year reign, His Highness, who ascended the throne in 1980, dedicated his life to the betterment of his people,” Ibrahim said.

He explained that as the 16th Emir of Gumel, the late monarch was a beacon of wisdom, offering invaluable advice and working tirelessly to improve health outcomes, increase school enrollments and promote peace and security across the state.

“His legacy of commitment to community progress and well-being will be deeply missed.

“The Jigawa State Government extends its deepest condolences to the Royal Family, the people of Gumel Emirate, the Council of State Chiefs and all citizens during this time of immense grief,” he added.

According to him, the details of the funeral arrangements will be announced by the emir’s palace and communicated to the public in due time.
