The Ministry of Foreign Affairs cries the death of Abb. Ogidan

Abuja (basic reporter) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces with sadness and a deep sense of national loss the disappearance of the ambassador Stephen Ojo Ogidan, who died on Saturday 27 September 2025, in Abuja after a short illness.

This was contained in a declaration of the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi IMOMOTIMI Ebienfa on Sunday 28 September 2025.

As a distinct and consumed officer, the ambassador Ogidan has dedicated over three decades of his life to an exemplary service to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He joined the Nigerian foreign service in January 2007 and served in various capacities, including publications at the Consulate General of Nigeria in Buena, Cameroon, and to the Embassy of Nigeria in Lomé, Togo.

During his illustrious career, the ambassador Ogidan was renowned for his deep intellect, strategic acumen and unwavering commitment to promote Nigeria’s national interests and advance regional integration. As Director of the Affari Division of West Africa, he played a fundamental role in modeling and managing the diplomatic commitments of Nigeria in West Africa.

According to the declaration, competence and calm behavior of the Ambassador Ogidan were precious assets for the ministry and the nation. He was conferred on the title of Ambassador in Situ by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2021.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its heartfelt condolences to the immediate family, to loved ones and the government and the government of the state of Edo, praying for the peaceful rest of his soul.

His disappearance leaves a void that will be deeply felt within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diplomatic Community, and will be remembered as an officer as a gentleman and a true patriot whose wisdom, dedication and patriotism have inspired all those who worked with him
