Ghana’s head coach, Chris Houghton, has confirmed that midfielder, Thomas Partey, will not be part of the squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The decision to exclude Partey is due to a recurring injury, and the 30 year-old will continues is expected to stay back at Arsenal for his rehabilitation.
Houghton has opted to prioritize Partey’s recovery rather than rush him back for the tournament.
Ghana finds itself in Group B for the AFCON, alongside Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique.
“Arsenal will treat this injury with caution, and so will the player [Partey].
“This is a big injury for him, the biggest injury he’s had.”
“From all the information we’ve been given, the timeline of his recovery and the caution that will be taken, (his recovery) will not meet our timeline for the AFCON,” he said.
